A jury found a young Tennessee mother guilty of killing her 15-month-old baby and hiding her body in a playhouse on her family’s property, potentially putting her in prison for the rest of her life.
Megan Boswell, 23, was convicted by a Sullivan County jury of three first-degree murder charges related to the death of her daughter Evelyn, who vanished in 2019.
Additionally, she was convicted of both aggravated child neglect and aggravated child abuse. She did not testify in the case and had entered a not guilty plea.
The jury in Boswell’s trial deliberated for just over four hours after closing statements concluded on Wednesday, according to WJHL. According to the site, the jury decided on a life sentence with the chance of parole on Thursday instead of a life term without parole.
The remains of Evelyn were discovered in a playhouse on a family member’s home in March after she was last seen in December 2019.
In August 2020, Megan was charged with murder. As previously reported by PEOPLE, Megan made conflicting claims in interviews with local news outlets during the desperate hunt for Evelyn.
At a press conference in 2020, Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy stated that Evelyn’s mother’s account “changes” each time authorities speak with her.
Megan allegedly told investigators that Evelyn had died while co-sleeping, according to evidence given by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Agent Brian Fraley in 2022.
