For more than thirty years, Clint and Lisa Hartman Black have been a couple.

The enduring country music duo got together backstage following one of Black’s 1990 New Year’s Eve performances. According to Lisa, “it was slow motion, like you see in the movies,” she said to PEOPLE in 2021. “There was something there.”

“I knew I was looking at somebody amazing,” said Clint. I had no prior knowledge of her. Her TV show was unknown to me. I was just like, “Wow,” as I stared into her eyes.

On October 20, 1991, they tied the knot in Texas. And their relationship is still going strong after all these years. She met Clint at his concert in 1990

In 1990, Lisa and Clint had a backstage meeting during one of his concerts in Houston, Texas.

Clint said to PEOPLE, “I didn’t know who she was, but as soon as I saw her standing there with those stunning blue eyes, I knew I wanted to see her again.”

The couple managed to make their dating work despite their hectic schedules. Lisa tells PEOPLE, “We were both really busy, so whenever we saw each other, we were exhausted.” However, when Clint paid her a visit on the set of her television film The Return of Eliot Ness in August 1991, things became more serious.

Lisa said, “He and I both had four days off, and they were the same four days.” “It seemed as though someone was observing from above and telling us that we should all get together.”

Clint revealed to PEOPLE that while working out in preparation for a show, he proposed to Lisa on the college track in Salt Lake City.

She inspires Clint’s songwriting

Clint has written songs about his relationship with Lisa ever since they got married, calling her the “biggest influence” in his life.

“Once we fell in love,” he stated to PEOPLE, “then any love song I wrote had to ring true to who we are.”

According to Country Living, two of the couple’s duets, “You Still Get to Me” and “Easy for Me to Say,” were influenced by Hartman Black. “When we got married, my capacity to feel deepened,” he stated. “I am guided by our marriage and who we are together. The duo appeared on The Masked Singer in 2020 as Snow Owls. “I looked up at Lisa and I said, ‘Well, listen to this,'” Clint revealed to PEOPLE. We merely chuckled at the notion, but as soon as we exchanged glances, we realized that we would give it some serious thought. We had a serious conversation about it for about five minutes before we were allowed inside. It moved so quickly.”

Lisa continued, “We had never done anything like this, so we really leaned on each other.”

They toured together

The couple’s tour, aptly named “Mostly Hits & the Mrs.,” took place in late 2022 and early 2023, and it featured their daughter Lily Pearl Black.

Clint explained to PEOPLE that the tour presented an opportunity to “continue to create something that we must be prepared for, go do, and enjoy.” This tour marks a new phase in my life. It’s enjoyable, thrilling, and demanding.
