On December 6, Jack Hogan, well known for his role as PFC William G. Kirby on ABC’s WWII drama Combat!, passed away peacefully in his sleep, as stated by the moderator of a Combat!-focused online group. He was ninety-four years old.
In 111 episodes of the enduring drama, Hogan portrayed PFC Kirby alongside Rick Jason, Vic Morrow, and Pierre Jalbert. Numerous episodes of the show, which aired from 1962 to 1967, were directed by Robert Altman. Hogan had served as a staff sergeant in Japan during the Korean War, so it was hardly uncharted territory.
Combat! was by no means Hogan’s only achievement.
His first appearance was in the 1956 Hogan, who starred in Man From Del Rio with Anthony Quinn, worked diligently. He appeared in several episode arcs on television shows like The Rough Riders, Sea Hunt, Have Gun-Will Travel, Lock Up, Bat Masterson, The Lawman, and The Rifleman.
Following Combat!, Hogan had a consistent career for the majority of the following thirty years. During this period, he was featured in 12 episodes of Jake and the Fatman, S.W.A.T., Hawaii Five-O, Kojak, Quincy M.E., Magnum P.I., and The A-Team.
