Landman Season 2: Key Details and Release Information

The first season of super-producer Taylor Sheridan’s drama about the oil industry, Landman, concluded in January. Since the conclusion of Season 1 left everything open-ended, we fully expect the popular series to return, even though Paramount+ has not formally renewed it for Season 2.

In the season finale, Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), our Michelob Ultra-swigging, incredibly flawed hero, found himself in a number of sticky situations that he will need to overcome in Season 2. Tommy is now the president of M-Tex Oil, a position he did not desire, when his employer, Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), passed away after a heart attack. He must collaborate with Rebecca (Kayla Wallace), an attorney he does not trust, to finalize discussions on an exploratory drilling agreement that Monty was putting together that, if it fails, will destroy the company.

He also needs to contend with the drug cartel that is smuggling goods across M-Tex’s territory. Tommy’s new, friendly, and intimidating point of contact, Gallino (Andy Garcia), wants his new “friend” Tommy to assist him bring the cartel into the oil business. Tommy will have a lot of trouble handling that non-consensual relationship.

In addition, Tommy’s son Cooper (Jacob Lofland) is in a physically and emotionally risky relationship with Ariana (Paulina Chávez), the distraught widow of his deceased oil field coworker, his daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph), and his (ex)wife Angela (Ali Larter) are all high maintenance.

Tommy is already dealing with a lot of issues, such as mashed potatoes and french fries, and when Landman returns, he will undoubtedly have even more to deal with. Here is what we currently know regarding a possible second season.

Has Landman been renewed for Season 2?

A second season has not yet been formally ordered by Paramount+. However, the show’s high ranking on the Nielsen streaming chart supports the streaming service’s claim that it is its most-watched original to date. Sheridan’s programs have not yet been canceled by Paramount, so it’s safe to believe that Landman won’t be the first.

In fact, a second season might already be in the works, even though Paramount+ hasn’t made any announcements yet. Demi Moore, star of Landman, told Deadline in May 2024, months before Season 1 debuted, that she anticipated beginning Season 2 production in early 2025. “I’ve already completed the first season and I’m excited for us to start the second which will be at the beginning of next year,” she stated. Larter’s statement to Elle in January 2025 that a production schedule for Season 2 has already been established fueled even more rumors. Her request for Netflix to “just announce it!” seems to reflect our own impatience. Once more, there is currently no official, public confirmation, but we are 99 percent certain that Landman Season 2 will air.

Landman Season 2 premiere date prediction

Taylor Sheridan program premiere dates are difficult to forecast. It’s simpler to simply state that you’ll see it when it’s done because there are so many variables at play, including weather, A-list actor schedules, and Sheridan’s erratic creative process. However, there won’t be much of a pause between seasons if Landman does return to production in early 2025. Despite the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, Lioness, another of Sheridan’s Paramount+ series, which is probably an even more complicated production than Landman, only took 15 months between Seasons 1 and 2. Therefore, if Demi Moore is right, the second season of Landman should premiere in late 2025 or early 2026.

The Landman Cast of Season 2
For Season 2, the majority of the actors from Season 1 would most likely return, including:

Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton, is a land manager at M-Tex Oil whose life is filled with crises.
Tommy’s companion and the widow of his boss, Monty, is played by Demi Moore as Cami Miller.
Tommy has resumed his connection with his ex-wife, Angela Norris, played by Ali Larter.
Michelle Randolph plays Tommy and Angela’s daughter, Ainsley Norris, who is ostensibly a high school student who aspires to wed an NFL quarterback.
Cooper Norris, Tommy and Angela’s son, is portrayed by Jacob Lofland. He intends to launch his own oil business in order to support Ariana.
Rebecca Savage, played by Kayla Wallace, is a shark lawyer that Monty appointed to run M-Tex with Tommy.
James Jordan plays Tommy’s roommate, Dale Bradley, a petroleum engineer who oversees roughnecks.
Ariana Medina, played by Paulina Chávez, is a young widow who falls in love with Cooper just too soon after her husband’s passing.
Colm Feore as Tommy’s other roommate and general attorney for M-Tex, Nathan.
Boss, a seasoned roughneck, is spoken by Mustafa.
Gallino, played by Andy Garcia, is a senior drug cartel member who want to work with Tommy.
Jon Hamm will not be returning to Landman after signing a one-season contract. Given that his character Monty passed away after open heart surgery, it would be odd if he did. According to Hamm, “You don’t come back from that,” USA Today reported. “He’s no longer with us.”

Additionally, Hamm revealed that Season 2 will feature a significantly larger role for Demi Moore, who didn’t do much in Season 1. “I think it’s fantastic that Taylor assured Moore that she would look after him. You’ll find this worthwhile. “To put it mildly,” remarked Hamm. Cami has a lot of space to develop and express her true self. Watching it will be fascinating.

Landman source material

Boomtown, a Texas Monthly podcast, served as the inspiration for Landman. Boomtown, which aired 12 episodes from 2019 to 2020, focuses on the oil business in America’s most productive oilfield, the Permian Basin. The Atlantic called Boomtown one of the top 50 podcasts of 2020.

Journalist Christian Wallace, who co-founded Landman with Sheridan, reported, wrote, and hosted Boomtown. In the past, Wallace was an editor at Texas Monthly and a roughneck.

Part of Landman is “very accurate” about what it’s like to work in the oil and gas industry, he told Deadline, while other parts were added for drama and to make for interesting characters. “And it’s funny, it depends on who you ask,” added the man. “My uncle, who has spent the previous thirty years working in the oil industry, will pick faults with anything. However, I believe that you get a good idea of what it’s like to work in the oil and gas industry for the most part.
