Mindy Kaling Shines in Gold at Running Point Premiere

Mindy Kaling arrived to shine!

At the debut of Running Point, a 10-episode series that stars Kate Hudson as the unexpected heir to her family’s Los Angeles basketball club after a scandal forces her brother, played by Justin Theroux, out, the comedy creator walked the red carpet at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles.

Kaling, 45, wore a form-fitting gold gown with sequins and decorations for the event, which took place on Thursday, February 13. The gown’s sheath skirt included gold leaf appliqués. She wore three silver rings and few other accessories, emphasizing the gown’s many intricate embellishments.

A brown glossy lip, soft pink blush, and gold and bronze eyeshadow finished Kaling’s appearance. She wore her long black hair swept behind her back in free waves.

Kaling is always dependable when it comes to making a glamorous arrival on the red carpet. Kaling’s Gaurav Gupta gown at last year’s Met Gala was so bulky that the actress needed help climbing the Met Museum stairs.

The look’s curving draping embellishments on the sweetheart-neckline bodice and floating, translucent layers managed to create an ethereal vibe despite its enormous size. For a little glitter, there were faint silver embellishments scattered throughout the gown’s fabric.

Kaling chose subtle glam, save for a smokey eye, and had her short hair fashioned in delicate curls at the ends to draw attention to her stunning outfit.
Kaling’s preference for projects with strong female characters is seen in Running Point, which stars prominent women Hudson and Brenda Song. She discusses this preference in relation to the books she chooses for her Amazon Publishing Imprint, Mindy’s Book Studio, which debuted in 2022.

Earlier this month, she told PEOPLE, “I really like ambitious women, underestimated women, and women with secrets.” “Those with large personalities.” I avoid a lot of situations involving modest female leads. That’s not my style, and neither is my reading preference.

Her previous television programs, Champions, Never Have I Ever, and The Sex Lives of College Girls, have female leads with “big personalities.”

David Stassen and Ike Barinholtz are two of Kaling’s fellow Running Point creators. Along with Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis, and Max Greenfield, Hudson, Theroux, and Song are the series’ main cast members.

Running Point will launch on Netflix on February 27.
