One of Prime Video’s most popular programs has been extended on the platform.

Two weeks prior to the second chapter of the show’s scheduled launch on December 15, the streamer owned by Amazon has placed an order for a third season of Reacher. Season three’s executive producer and series lead Alan Ritchson made the news on Saturday at Prime Video’s panel at the CCXP event in São Paulo. You can watch the video below. Season three’s production has already started.

Given that Reacher’s debut season is one of Prime Video’s biggest original series to date, the early pickup is hardly shocking. According to Nielsen’s streaming ratings, the show debuted in February 2022 to the strongest opening week ever for the platform. Reacher is reportedly among the top five shows on Amazon worldwide, yet as is typically the case with streaming content, specific watching statistics aren’t made available to the general public.

Everything else about season three is being kept under wraps. The eleventh book in author Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series of novels, Bad Luck and Trouble, served as the basis for season two of Reacher. In it, the main character, Rickson, is tasked with figuring out who is murdering members of the 110th MP Special Investigations, his former U.S. Army unit. Following Reacher’s reunion with his three old teammates (Marina Sten, Serinda Swan, and Shaun Sipos), they start to piece together a mystery in which the stakes are raised at every turn.

Reacher is a production of Skydance Television, Paramount Television Studios, and Amazon MGM Studios. Season three will be executive produced by showrunner Nick Santora, Child, and Ritchson. Don Granger, Mick Betancourt, Scott Sullivan, and David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell of Skydance.

Below is a clip from season two and Ritchson’s announcement about season three.
