The aftermath of the data refiners’ Outdoor Retreat Team-Building Occurrence (ORTBO) at Woe’s Hollow is the subject of “Trojan’s Horse,” the fifth episode of the second season of Apple TV+’s science fiction series “Severance.” More than Mark Scout and Dylan George’s innies, Helly R. and Seth Milchick are impacted by the regrettable events that take place there. The life of Irving Bailiff becomes more problematic after he is fired from Lumon Industries. The protagonist is getting close to solving the Cold Harbor mystery, which keeps his bosses on the edge of their seats. As Mark’s reintegration efforts advance, complex and unnerving visions result! BEWARE OF SPOILERS.
Helly R. is Brought Back to Life to Earn Mark’s Trust
“Trojan’s Horse” opens with an unidentified Lumon Industries employee entering the company’s Optics and Design section. He picks up a shipment from the department and departs down an enigmatic corridor that appears in several of Irving Bailiff’s paintings. Following her near-death encounter at Woe’s Hollow, Helena Eagan meets with Mr. Drummond and Natalie Kalen to talk about what lies ahead for the former. Pretending to be Helly R once more, she claims that she wants to go back to the severed floor as herself. With the approval of her father and Lumon CEO, Jame Eagan, the other two, however, request that Helena be cut off and give birth to her daughter, Innie.
Helena is informed by Natalie and Drummond that Mark will only re-trust her if she is clearly Helly and not just a “actress” posing as one. As the enigmatic project Cold Harbor draws to a close, the company’s leaders can’t afford to betray the protagonist once again, thus Helena is cut off once more. She does the procedure off-screen because she has no other options, and Helly goes back to the severed floor. She is upset about one of the Eagans exploiting her identity to trick Mark and other coworkers. In the meantime, Milchick clarifies that Helena was posing as an innie in order to do research utilizing a technique known as Glasgow Block.
Mark refuses to acknowledge the difference despite Helly’s attempts to persuade him that she is not Helena. She tries to get back in touch with him, but he avoids her, and their connection gets more complicated when she finds out that Ms. Casey is Mark’s wife outside of their relationship. As Helly tries to make sense of these developments, Dylan asks Milchick if Irving will be going back to work. The seasoned employee has been fired permanently, and his outie has set out on a journey, the terminated floor supervisor explains.
Dylan G. Honors Irving’s Memories at His Funeral
Dylan requests a funeral in order to pay respect to the departed employee’s memory and say goodbye after hearing Milchick’s explanation of what happened to Irving’s innie. He persuades his boss to set up the ceremony because he views the job termination as nothing less than death. Miss Huang shares her uninvited view that a funeral shouldn’t be permitted as Milchick gets ready for the show. Dylan gives a eulogy of his colleague throughout the event, highlighting the latter’s kindness and compassion. Milchick offers the data refiners a watermelon cut in the shape of Irving’s face as a way to wrap up the event.
As Dylan eats the watermelon, he keeps thinking of Irving. He sees a piece of paper behind a picture frame just as he is ready to leave the room following the ceremony. When he opens it, he finds the hallway shown in his colleague’s drawings along with the directions to get there. He reads it and then leaves the piece of paper where he found it, clearly unsure of what to do with it. Irving continues to reside in Kier in the outside world. He goes to a phone booth one evening and phones an unidentified individual to let them know that he has been fired from his job.
Even though this person hasn’t been identified, it’s possible that they are Harmony Cobel. She has been hiding herself since the third episode of the second season, when she fled the Lumon headquarters. While she was in charge of the severed floor, Irving served her with unwavering dedication and determination, therefore it is possible that she is planning a plan to “set things right” at the corporation with him. Irving spots Burt Goodman sitting in a nearby automobile in the middle of the call. The retired Lumon employee reveals that he needs to know why the former knocked on his door a few days ago when he approaches the latter.
Burt tells Irving that there have been allegations that they were a “item” while they were coworkers at Lumon. The retired guy then asks his husband and the recently fired data refiner to have dinner at his house so they can discuss the situation. Irving goes back to his flat after accepting the invitation.
Mark’s Outie Starts to See Visions of Ms. Casey
Milchick attends his first performance evaluation meeting as the fired floor supervisor following Irving’s burial. He reveals his disapproval of the paintings that show the Lumon founder as a Black man when he questions Natalie about her reaction or experience at receiving paintings of Kier Eagan in her likeness on his approach to the conference room. She takes him to his meeting with Mr. Drummond without providing him with a proper response. The Lumon enforcer uses Helena’s near-death experience and Irving’s termination as instances to highlight Milchick’s shortcomings as the terminated floor supervisor.
Lumon wants Milchick to do a better job of overseeing Mark as he approaches the end of Cold Harbor. He confronts the protagonist as a result of this demand after the protagonist gives his boss unsatisfactory answers. The employee becomes frightened when the supervisor becomes impatient and brings up the topic of the data refiner having an affair with Helena. Meanwhile, to the chagrin of his wife and Mark’s sister Devon, Ricken Hale is rewriting his book for Lumon’s laid-off floor workers. She questions him about why he works with a corporation that mistreats its workers, but the writer is preoccupied with the approval “Nat” gave him for listening to his partner.
Mark asks Asal Reghabi when they may start his reintegration process after he gets back to his place. The woman, who has been living in the same home as him, asks him to wait while she looks for items that are personally connected to the man who was cut off. Mark’s reintegration attempts are revealed when he unexpectedly sees a vision of Ms. Casey inside the severed floor.
