In the spring of 2024, FOX’s popular competition series So You Think You Can Dance will make a comeback for its 18th season, promising a blend of classic and modern elements.
The return of Cat Deeley as host and Nigel Lythgoe as one of the judges is the old. The arrival of Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Allison Holker is fresh. Allison is the widow of Stephen “tWitch” Boss, a former participant and judge on the show. Allison herself was a contestant on the show. She was also a choreographer and one of the 12 professional dancers on the 19th season of Dancing with the Stars. Naturally, Maks is a choreographer and DWTS Mirrorball Trophy winner who is fresh to SYTYCD.
A format update that portrays the real experience of developing a successful dancing career is also new. In order to do this, each week, the competitors will take on tough dance tasks that will offer them a true flavour of the industry. These tasks may range from competing head-to-head on stage with a Broadway performer to appearing in a music video or halftime show for a football team.
In addition, Comfort Fedoke, a former SYTYCD All-Star and associate choreographer for the upcoming movie Wicked, will be joining the judging panel for the audition phase.
“We are excited to bring the popular show back for an all-new season,” stated Allison Wallach, president of Unscripted Programming at FOX Entertainment. “So You Think You Can Dance is television’s preeminent dance competition.” “Bringing Cat, Nigel, Allison, and Comfort back together and embracing Maksim into the SYTYCD family will undoubtedly make Season 18 even more exciting for their devoted global fan base.”
As in past seasons, dancers from all across the nation will compete to win one of ten highly sought-after seats on the show by showcasing their talent in a variety of dance genres, such as tap, hip-hop, ballroom, contemporary, and more.
Viewers will be able to follow the competitors as they navigate their personal and competitive adventures, including daily challenges, forming new relationships, conflicts between personalities, and more, behind the scenes in addition to simply watching them dance.
Weekly eliminations will occur, and only one contestant will earn the $100,000 grand prize and the esteemed title of So You Think You Can Dance. The Top 3 finalists will square off in the season finale.
The 18th season of So You Think You Can Dance will debut on FOX on Monday, March 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
