PEOPLE can verify that Tiffany Haddish has been taken into custody.
The actress, 43, is accused of falling asleep behind the wheel of a car, which led to her detention on Friday morning, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD).
Around 5:45 a.m. local time, according to the authorities, they received a call regarding a woman who was stopped in the middle of Beverly Drive with her car running. Haddish is anticipated to be released later today, said the BHPD.
Haddish had already performed at The Laugh Factory in West Hollywood the night before, in honor of the venue’s 43rd annual free Thanksgiving feast for the community event, according to TMZ, which broke the story first.
The Girls Trip star was previously detained in January 2022 for another DUI-related incident, which led to Haddish’s most recent arrest.
She was detained at the time on January 14 by Peachtree City police officers in Georgia on suspicion of DUI and for stopping on the wrong side of the road.
Authorities say that at about 2:30 a.m. local time, a driver on Highway 74 allegedly fell asleep at the wheel prompted a 911 call to the police. Officers stopped a car while it was still moving and found one that fit the 911 caller’s description.
At the time, police told PEOPLE that “a subsequent investigation led to Ms. Tiffany Haddish being arrested for Driving Under the Influence.” “She was transported to the Fayette County Jail without incident.”
Later, in April 2022, Haddish discussed the incident while serving as a guest host on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. During the program, the comic made a joke, saying, “Yes, I did get charged with a DUI, which stand for Dumb Unfortunate Incidents.”
According to TMZ, her court date for that matter is December 4.
