According to NBC News, ABC News, and CBS Austin, Kaitlin Armstrong, 35, was found guilty on Thursday of killing 25-year-old Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson. She was given a 90-year jail sentence.
More than a year after Wilson was discovered shot to death in her friend’s house on May 11, 2022, the eagerly awaited trial started on November 1.
She met Colin Strickland, a fellow biker, only hours before the elite cyclist passed away. After dinner and drinks, they went swimming, then Strickland dropped Wilson off at her friend’s house. Wilson’s companion discovered her shot to death inside the house an hour later.
Investigators soon focused on Armstrong, a yoga instructor and Strickland’s girlfriend, whose car was spotted close to the residence where Wilson was killed, according to KXAN.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Armstrong and Strickland reconciled after Wilson and him started dating in 2021 while they were still apart. But Strickland continued to be friends with Wilson, which was said to enrage Armstrong.
According to KXAN, Armstrong was wrongly freed from detention following interrogation. He subsequently left Austin and made his way to New York City before becoming missing.
Armstrong was apprehended in Costa Rica on June 29, following a 43-day period of evasion. At the time of her arrest, the U.S. Marshals Services declared her captured and said that on May 18, she entered the nation using a forged passport. She was accused of murder after being brought back to the United States and entered a not guilty plea. Following a two-and-a-half-week trial, she was convicted guilty of first-degree murder on Thursday.
Following a doctor’s appointment in October of this year, Armstrong was seen on camera attempting to elude police, which was obtained by KXAN.
Following a roughly 10-minute pursuit outside an orthopedic clinic, Armstrong was taken into custody by Travis County officers, the source claimed at the time.
Following two hours of deliberation, the jury on Thursday found Armstrong guilty of first-degree murder.
