Cast members of Big Little Lies, including Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, have hinted at potential reunions for the third season of the HBO series.
Kidman stated in November 2019 that she would be amenable to a second season provided the writers were on board.
She told Deadline at the time, “If there’s a third one, all of it will come from the writers, and that’s amazing.” “Liane Moriarty possesses exceptional talent.” Together, they are incredibly talented, and David [E. Kelley] is even more so. I’m not sure where they would take it, then. It truly begins with the writers, so you have to submit to them. Unless you write and/or direct it, in which case you write it. However, we’ll see what Liane can muster and whether she’s interested in this show.
Witherspoon, however, hinted that it could be difficult to bring the actors back together for another season without director Jean-Marc Vallée following his loss.
“We were very affected by Jean-Marc Vallée’s passing,” she said in an October 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He worked with us as a collaborator. He was our companion. He was our sibling. It is difficult to envision a world without him since so much of that series originated from his imagination and inventiveness. But there’s no denying that we all have a strong desire to reconnect and develop those characters. Because everyone is so busy, I’m not sure how it could be accomplished logistically. It [definitely] couldn’t be completed immediately. Later on? Perhaps.
Kidman appeared to confirm that a third season was being developed in November 2023. She mentioned, “We will be bringing you a third one, FYI,” at an LGPA function.

Nicole Kidman
At a November Q&A session at an LPGA event in Florida during the CME Group Tour Championship, she said, “I loved Big Little Lies because it kind of came along at a time in my life when I had my children and I was thinking I was going to retire,” according to Deadline. “And then this opportunity presented itself, wherein Reese Witherspoon and I were able to develop that program, and after that, all of you saw it and helped make it a huge hit. Just so you know, we’re going to be bringing you a third one. Yes.
Zoë Kravitz
“I don’t think it is,” she responded to a question about whether the program will ever have a third season in November 2022 on GQ.”We discussed creating a Season 3 quite a bit. Regretfully, our amazing filmmaker, Jean-Marc Vallée, passed away in the previous year. It is devastating. Without him, I don’t know how I would manage. He was that show’s true visionary. Regretfully, it’s finished.
Reese Witherspoon
During a video discussion with costar Laura Dern in May 2020, she said, “We want to do it.” “We’re waiting a little bit. Guys, we’re trying. We’re attempting to craft the ideal narrative.
Shailene Woodley
We’re all always asking, ‘When are we going to do season three?'” In July 2021, she said to The Hollywood Reporter, “How do we make that happen?” “With fingers crossed, I’d like to say that it is happening.”
Laura Dern
In October 2022, Dern hinted to Entertainment Tonight, “I’m gonna be shy about it.” We’re just like family; we couldn’t ask for anything more. We’re really fortunate. I say let’s hope for the best. Let’s not give up; who knows, it might just happen.
