Is Fantastic Four’ Coming in 2025: Here’s What We Know

Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon welcome Fantastic Four. None of the numerous attempts to adapt the beloved comic book series into a successful film have been successful, beginning with a 1994 attempt that was never even able to get into theaters. The 2005 20th Century Fox version of Tim Story received negative reviews from critics. Despite earning enough money to support a 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, the film was a box office disaster.

After then, the show was stuck in development hell for almost ten years until Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell returned to the series in 2015 as part of 20th Century Fox. However, that version proved to be an even worse failure than the previous ones, barely breaking even on its own budget and receiving a disgraceful 15% of positive reviews and 9% of critical reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Will the curse be broken by Marvel Studio’s next reboot? Here’s all we know about the newest Fantastic Four film, including the release date and casting rumors.

What is the Fantastic Four’s release date?

On May 2, 2025, Fantastic Four is scheduled for release. The MCU’s creative director, Kevin Feige, declared in July 2022 at San Diego Comic-Con that Fantastic Four will be the first film to be released as part of Marvel’s Phase Six.

Director Matt Shakman told Collider in October that although the now-resolved actors’ strike undoubtedly caused some production delays, the movie’s work never came to a complete halt because his team was still able to work on effects and production design. That probably indicates that the film is on schedule for its planned release.

Who is the director of Fantastic Four?

Fantastic Four will be directed by Matt Shakman, who oversaw the wildly popular WandaVision forDisney+, according to a Deadline article from August 2022. In addition, Shakman has contributed to the television series The Great, Game of Thrones, Fargo, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Fantastic Four, however, would mark his first significant picture directing assignment (excluding his 2014 independent movie Cut Bank).

Shakman took over as director after Jon Watts, the renowned Spider-Man, opted to take a sabbatical and step down, as originally planned by Kevin Feige.

Who is in the Fantastic Four cast?

Marvel hasn’t revealed the Fantastic Four cast officially, but with the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, we should know more shortly. Ever since the movie’s confirmation, there have undoubtedly been casting rumors. Because of his brief portrayal of Reed Richard, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022, many fans conjectured that John Krasinski was a lock to play the role. However, the Jack Ryan actor stated in December 2022 that there were “no discussions at all” about him taking up the role again.

Back in May, Adam Driver was tipped to play Reed Richards by the incredibly trustworthy MCU internet insider MyTimetoShineHello. However, on November 12, he tweeted, “Who would you like to see as Reed Richards,” raising the possibility that his feelings had changed. Jake Gyllenhaal was another name that was recently suggested for the part.

Additionally, Daveed Diggs as Ben Grimm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Margot Robbie and Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm have all been mentioned in rumors. But let’s keep all of this conjecture as mere conjecture until we hear from above.

What will happen in Fantastic Four?

While casting and plot details are being closely guarded by Marvel, Feige has stated that the Fantastic Four remake would not be an origin story.

In an interview with Collider, Shakman hinted that the film will be “different in so many ways.”

He added, “I wish I could be more specific.” “I wish I had more to say. It will be unlike anything you have ever seen, and definitely unlike anything you have ever seen at Marvel, but we are approaching the story and filmmaking in a completely unusual way that perfectly matches the material.”

In an interview with Screenrant, Shakman also mentioned how the Fantastic Four are “a true family.”

“Not a family you find along the way like the X-Men or the Avengers, but true family with all the messiness of a family … With all the love, the hurt, and the complexity of that.” The family relationship between the Fantastic Four may therefore be the central theme of the narrative.

Has Fantastic Four started filming?

Not quite yet. However, Shakman says that filming would probably start in the spring of 2024 and take place at London’s storied Pinewood Studios.

Is there a trailer for Fantastic Four?

Since filming has not even started, Marvel has not yet published a trailer for the film. However, a promotional teaser poster featuring the trademark luminous blue “4” symbol in the center was released by the studio. Thrilled yet?
