Red Carpet: Top 5 Looks of the Night at the 2023 Emmy Awards

I’m sorry, Kentucky Derby, but the 2024 Oscar season ought to be called “The Run for the Roses.” Have floral details ever dominated a string of red carpet appearances so heavily, from Jennifer Lopez at the Golden Globes to Margot Robbie and Emily Blunt at Critics Choice to Meghann Fahy at the 2023 Emmy Awards?

Maybe it’s because there were three award shows in a span of eight days, but red carpet trends have taken off and are now the biggest topics in fashion. Not only were there floral accents, but red, white, and black were the most popular colors; some men refused to consider wearing ties; and men of all walks of life accessorized tuxedo lapels with brooches.

Va-va-voom mermaid gowns were also widely worn on the star-studded Emmy red carpet. Notable examples of this trend were the custom Marchesa worn by Hannah Waddingham, the Christian Siriano worn by Sheryl Lee Ralph, and the Greta Constantine custom gown worn by Emmy winner Niecy Nash.

At the ceremony held on January 15 at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles, who executed every detail flawlessly? View this compilation of the top 15 looks of the evening:

Adam DiMarco in Dior Men

If, like many guys this awards season, you’re forgoing the tie, make sure the remainder of your ensemble is well-groomed and put together. Adam DiMarco of The White Lotus demonstrated his understanding of that task with this Dior Men outfit, which featured a clean white buttoned shirt and a double-breasted jacket.

Ayo Edebiri in custom Louis Vuitton

The Bear co-star is winning three times this awards season, and she looks amazing on the red carpet as well. Ayo Edebiri won a trophy for best supporting actress at the ceremony on Monday. She looked stylish and artistic in a custom Louis Vuitton ensemble that included a black leather bustier dress with a 3D tulip pattern and Louis Vuitton shoes.

Christina Ricci in Saint Laurent

The Yellowjackets actor wowed on the silver carpet wearing a black velvet Saint Laurent gown with a plunging neckline. The dress was the ideal style to highlight Christina Ricci’s Martin Katz jewelry. A tassel made of emerald beads encircled by diamond bezels and set in 18-karat yellow gold was one of her emerald and diamond pieces. It was hanging on an 18-karat white gold Katz’s Diamonds by the Yard necklace. A clutch from Saint Laurent completed the ensemble.

Colman Domingo in Louis Vuitton

Colman Domingo is making it look easy if he’s trying to win the title of best-dressed man for the 2024 awards season. The actor looked impeccable and stylish on the red carpet on Monday. He wore a custom Louis Vuitton ensemble that included a black evening coat with satin lapels and a pearl button closure, a white shirt, and matching pants. Domingo accessorized the ensemble with earrings, rings, and black boots. The ensemble also included a pearl necklace, brooch, and bracelet from Louis Vuitton.

Donald Glover in Bode

The star of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which will premiere on Amazon Prime on February 2, embraced the floral trend of the season by donning a suit by the upscale New York-based brand Bode, which has also been seen on Jordan Peele, Harry Styles, and Bruno Mars. Glover accessorized his ensemble with a Cartier watch and gold jewelry.

Elizabeth Debicki in Dior Haute Couture

Elizabeth Debicki, who has always been a fashion favorite, turned heads on the Emmys red carpet with her stylish, simple Dior Haute Couture sheath. The design’s stunning open back was even more striking as she turned around. Debicki, who was nominated for The Crown’s best supporting actress, accessorized the gown with jewels by Dior.

Issa Rae in Pamella Roland

Issa Rae looked stunning in this beaded and feathered creation by Pamella Roland. It’s evident when someone genuinely enjoys what they’re wearing. Rae declared on the red carpet, “I wanted to feel bedazzled,” and she looked great doing it in this champagne-colored tulle caftan from Roland’s Spring 2024 collection. Jewelry by Cast with diamonds and yellow gold completed Rae’s ensemble.

Jessica Chastain in Gucci

In a sea of deep crimson and black ensembles, Jessica Chastain’s custom Gucci gown made her stand out like a beacon of light. This is meant to be the nicest kind of compliment. The design director Sabato De Sarno created a unique fluorescent green gown for the best actress nomination for a limited series or anthology for George & Tammy. The gown was made of silk cady and had beaded fringes and an allover sequined embroidery. Jewelry designed by Reza with emerald and diamonds completed Chastain’s ensemble.

Keri Russell in Alexandre Vauthier Couture

Every red carpet writer instantly recognized this navy organza gown with a cape and velvet belt with brooch as the perfect outfit for a Hollywood star when it debuted on Alexander Vauthier’s haute-couture catwalk in July. Thus, it was exciting to watch Keri Russell of The Diplomat select the 2023 Emmy Awards ensemble, which exuded glitz and avant-garde flair right away. Russell accessorized the ensemble with Saint Laurent shoes, a Tyler Ellis purse, and jewels by Priti by Appointment NY.

Meghann Fahy in Louis Vuitton

Meghann Fahy, who was nominated for best supporting actress in The White Lotus, wore a bustier gown by Giorgio Armani Privé that included a splash of crystal-embroidered roses down the strapless neckline, capitalizing on the current trend of rose embellishments. The actress accessorized the gown with a Serpenti ring, a bracelet, and high-end Bulgari earrings set in pink gold with diamonds.

Rachel Brosnahan in Atelier Versace

Who wouldn’t like Atelier Versace’s stunning corset gown on Rachel Brosnahan? The garment was a wonderful example of handmade craftsmanship and fit, intricacy, and flair. The actress stated on the red carpet that she felt “like a purple warrior princess” in the dress, adding that the design and fittings had taken place over the course of at least two months. The Emmy-nominee and star of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel paired the design with Aquazurra shoes and gold and diamond gems by Rainbow K, Suzanne Kalan, and Yvonne Leon.

Riley Keough in Chanel

The 2023 Emmy Awards were no different from the dreamy and sophisticated looks the Daisy Jones & The Six star has been sporting throughout awards season in Chanel. Under a gown of black organza, Keough wore shorts embroidered with a black and white bee design, part of Chanel’s haute-couture Spring 2023 collection. Chanel shoes and expensive jewelry completed the ensemble.

Sarah Snook in Vivienne Westwood

The Emmy-winning actress from Succession wore a poppy-red corset gown by Vivienne Westwood that was the ideal match for her skin tone. Her high-end Cartier jewelry, which was made of emeralds and diamonds set in 18-karat white gold, made her both excited and anxious. On the red carpet, she told Laverne Cox of E! that she had asked the jeweler’s security to make sure her husband understood how to remove the necklace at the end of the evening, but mostly to ensure it stayed on during the event.

Selena Gomez in Oscar de la Renta

One of the most stunning moments of the evening occurred when Selena Gomez arrived wearing this Oscar de la Renta gown designed by Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia. The fern-embroidered design was a nod to the couple’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection. Approximately 450,000 rosewood and burgundy paillettes made up the garment, which took 930 hours to hand embroider by hand. In addition, Gomez stole the show with her exquisite Jean Schlumberger Tiffany Bird on a Rock necklace, which was made of platinum and yellow gold and had diamonds and pink sapphires encircling a morganite that weighed over 35 carats. She added more Tiffany & Co. jewelry and Rene Caovilla shoes to complete the ensemble.

Tyler James Williams in Dolce & Gabbana

Tyler James Williams of Abbott Elementary looked like a superhero because to the amazing cut of his Dolce & Gabbana jacket. The Italian label’s Sicilia-fit double-breasted jacket with shawl lapels, matching pants, and patent-leather boots made up the best supporting actor nominee’s custom costume. He accessorized the ensemble with diamond and 18-karat white gold gems and a Cartier Tank Française watch.
