‘The Last of Us’ Secures Numerous Emmy Wins at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards”

How many primetime Emmys did The Last of Us win in the 75th edition? Eight (even though every one of its honors was taken home on January 7 at the Creative Arts Emmys).

The program, which had received 24 nominations for its first season—second only to Succession—went into the evening with nominations for best drama, acting, and outstanding directing.

The 2023 ceremony was rescheduled to award only those shows that aired between May 31, 2023, and June 1, 2022. Due to the simultaneous writers’ and actors’ strikes that closed down Hollywood for a total of five months, there is a wider than normal gap between eligibility dates and the ceremony’s telecast date. (The original date of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards was set for September 18, 2023.)

The Last of Us hasn’t shown more seasons after the one that’s nominated—and video games aren’t eligible!—so there wasn’t the same misunderstanding over which of its seasons was nominated as there was with other nominated series (see: The Bear and The Crown).
