The arrival of Spooky Season also means the arrival of this year’s celebrity Halloween costumes.
Wednesday, October 25, marked the beginning of the festivities with Kelsea Ballerini’s Original Donut Shop Coffee costume party in New York City. She donned a Barbie costume, which is expected to be one of the most popular costumes for 2023.
She wasn’t just any Barbie, either. She wore a white cowboy hat with a two-piece hot pink bell-bottom ensemble and matching neckerchief, channeling Margot Robbie’s western-wear Barbie from the Greta Gerwig-directed movie. It was the ideal look for the country music icon. (Our list of the top pop culture Halloween costumes for 2023 has the look for less money.)
Ballerini wrote “HI BARBIE, HAPPY (early) HALLOWEEN” as the caption for a set of pictures featuring the fuchsia ensemble.
Chloe Bailey, another early adopter for Halloween, showed off her sultry rendition of Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones, accessorizing the medieval ensemble with a metal bodysuit and a long blond wig. Not quite the sword-covered Iron Throne that Dany finally sits upon, but she is sitting on a throne in the pictures, surrounded by dragon eggs, skulls, candles, and an hourglass.
Bailey wrote, “I am Khaleesi, the Mother of Dragons #gameofthrones,” as the caption for her photo set, adding an emoji of a dragon.
However, Halloween 2023 is only getting underway. The greatest celebrity and musical costumes are seen here, along with some great suggestions for musician-themed costumes, such as the topical “ketchup and seemingly ranch” ensembles worn by Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams. View every picture below, which is updated every Halloween (October 31).

Dressing as “ketchup and seemingly ranch,” Sarah Hyland, star of Modern Family, and her husband, Wells Adams, bartender on Bachelor in Paradise, take home the prize for the most topical costume thus far. Taylor Swift allegedly used these condiments on her chicken fingers at the first Kansas City Chiefs game she went to support Travis Kelce.

Vanessa Hudgens wore a spaghetti-strapped bridal dress and a heavenly headdress for her Halloween-weekend bachelorette party. Her friends, including Sarah Hyland, were also dressed in black. Hyland wrote, “Dress code: All black for a bride in white,” as the group’s Instagram post’s description. Cole Tucker, a professional baseball player, is Hudgens’ fiancé.
