The complex emotion of love is made even more difficult to comprehend when someone who is currently in a relationship falls in love with someone else. The possibility of adultery can be both thrilling and frightening. There is enough drama in this subject for storytellers to examine it from several perspectives, regardless of the motivations behind a person cheating on their partner. God Forbid (2022)
The seven-year sexual relationship between pool attendant Giancarlo Granda and Becki Falwell, wife of preacher Jerry Falwell Jr., president of Liberty University, one of the biggest Christian universities in America and a prominent Trump supporter, is the subject of this documentary. Granda himself gives us a first-hand account of the entire case in the movie, including the political fallout, describing how Jerry looked on as Becki and Granda made love. To the Wonder (2012)
The three main characters in Terrence Malick’s love drama “To the Wonder” are Neil, Marina, and Jane. Neil commits to Marina at the start of the movie, but there is a fallout and he meets Jane. Marina, who had moved on from Neil, begins to miss him once more in the interim. Neil and Jane’s relationship eventually begins to fall apart as well. We get a dismal drama that doesn’t hold back from tearing human emotions off its veneers as emotions and feelings become jumbled and our characters battle to determine what and who they want. “To the Wonder,” which stars Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, and Rachel McAdams, is available for streaming right now.
Anaïs in Love (2021)
In addition to being a comedy film about adultery with several “falls for,” “Anaïs in Love” is also a holiday film. The film, which was directed by Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet, centers on Anaïs (Anaïs Demoustier), a 30-year-old who is unhappy with her lover Raoul (Christophe Montenez), and how a much older married man named Daniel (Denis Podalydès) falls in love with her. The odd couple tries to get things rolling while Anaïs searches for a way out. However, this is not the focus of the film. It tells the story of what occurs when Anaïs develops feelings for Daniel’s famous writer live-in girlfriend Emilie (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi). We get a sense of unadulterated longing and belonging that the two ladies are secretly creating for one another as Anaïs and Emilie spend time together in the stunning landscape of the Brittany peninsula. Deep Water (2022)
“Deep Water,” an erotic thriller starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, is full of sensuous tension, excitement, and driven infidelity—infidelity with a purpose. The complex relationship between Vic (Affleck) and Melinda (de Armas), who are married and have a kid, is founded on an odd arrangement designed to prevent the chaos that comes with a divorce. Melinda is permitted to sleep with other guys and have affairs. However, Vic, who has previously claimed to have slain another of Melinda’s boyfriends, comes into focus when one of her lovers is killed. Was he kidding, or was he serious? Both Sides of the Blade (2022)
Director Claire Denis makes it very evident that Sara’s ideal love relationship with Jean—a man with a criminal past—has no imperfections at all. But Sara’s old sentiments and the restless nights they bring back when she sees her ex-boyfriend François. The return of the past causes Sara’s love life and Jean’s attitude to spiral out of control. Sara, meantime, embraces François’ return to her life, beginning a love triangle story that has an unexpected conclusion. “Both Sides of the Blade,” which stars Juliette Binoche as Sara, Vincent Lindon as Jean, and Grégoire Colin as François, is a distinct contribution to the infidelity genre and a scathing and personal erotic thriller. Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)
“Portrait of a Lady on Fire” transports us to France in the eighteenth century, where we meet painter Marianne (Noémie Merlant) and her subject, soon-to-be bride Héloïse (Adèle Haenel). Before they may get married, the groom must approve of Héloïse’s portrait. Reluctant to marry, Héloïse is not prepared to have the artwork completed. Therefore, Marianne’s only option is to be her companion throughout the day so that she may get to know her both physically and emotionally and use the evening to paint her image. It is this process that gradually develops into a difficult, exciting, and beautiful romance. Céline Sciamma’s “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” is a masterpiece. The movie is available here.
