Cynthia Erivo Sparks Speculation, But She’s Not Wearing an Engagement Ring at the 2025 Grammys

Cynthia Erivo did not wear an engagement ring at this year’s Grammys, despite what some internet rumors claim.

Fans conjectured that the 38-year-old Wicked actress might be engaged to her longtime companion Lena Waithe after she wore a big sparkler on that finger at the wedding on February 2. However, a source tells PEOPLE that the ring was just that—a ring.

According to the insider notes, Erivo’s whole Grammys jewelry collection, with the exception of one ring, was lent, and she is only permitted to wear the pieces on specific fingers due to the nail art. (The artist, who is well-known for her intricate manicures, claimed that it took five hours to achieve her celestial look at the Grammys.)

In addition to wearing a unique Louis Vuitton gown, Erivo sang a heartfelt homage to the late music artist Quincy Jones, who passed away in November 2024 at the age of 91, at the 2025 Grammy Awards, while her Wicked co-star Ariana Grande chose not to attend.

The two-time Academy Award nominee honored the music legend by lending her strong voice to a moving performance of Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon.”

Waithe, Erivo’s spouse and an Emmy Award-winning writer, producer, and actor, has been supporting the star while she enjoys Wicked: Part One’s triumph. After the stage-to-screen adaption, directed by Jon M. Chu, debuted in theaters in November, Waithe, 40, celebrated Erivo’s stellar performance on social media.

Prior to the release of the movie office hit, the couple also spent time together at a number of events, such as the Tony Awards in June, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures gala in October, and the US Open Tennis Championships in September.

In a recent interview, Erivo explained why the couple usually keeps their relationship and personal life completely private.

In a November joint interview with Grande, the singer stated she is “very tight-lipped with my relationships, ’cause I don’t think that my relationship is for anyone else but for me” in an interview with Vanity Fair.

Erivo told the magazine, “I spend a lot of my life sharing everything — whether it’s my work, my soul, or my life in speeches.” “I believe I contribute enough to be able to keep something for myself.”

At the time, she said, “And who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind at some point.” However, I believe it’s alright. People only need to be aware that I identify as queer and that I may be in relationships with any or both men and women.
