Two and a Half Men on CBS was praised for its portrayal of the modern family when it debuted on television in 2003. The program featured the life of Charlie Harper, a renowned playboy and devoted bachelor whose life is turned upside down when his distant 10-year-old son comes in with his recently divorced type-A brother.
The show continued for eight seasons before Sheen’s drug and alcohol addiction prevented the show’s production from continuing with him. He was fired off the show after a well-known public argument with executive producer Chuck Lorre. After thereafter, Ashton Kutcher took over as the lead until the show’s 2015 finale.
Despite all the drama, Two and a Half Men is still one of the best-performing sitcoms from the early 2000s (and a great choice for a weekend marathon). Angus T. Jones as Jake Harper
Child performer Angus T. Jones, who landed the part of Jake Harper at the age of ten, played the titular “half man” referenced in the show’s title.
Even while Jones had a number of acting credits prior to the CBS series, including Dinner with Friends, George of the Jungle 2, The Christmas Blessing, and more, he has hung up his acting cape and mostly avoided the spotlight since finishing Two and a Half Men.
April Bowlby as Kandi
In season three, April Bowlby made her on-screen debut as Kandi, another of Charlie’s “romantic” trysts.
Bowlby starred in Drop Dead Diva, The Big Bang Theory, and How I Met Your Mother in addition to her 17-episode run on the CBS series. Her most recent credit is from her part as Rita Farr, also known as Elasti-Girl, in Doom Patrol.
Bowlby maintains a low profile, but according to her Instagram page, she and her husband Matthew Cooke appear to have had a child sometime in 2022.
Ashton Kutcher as Walden Schmidt
Charlie Sheen left the show, and Ashton Kutcher took over as the main actor. He plays Walden Schmidt, a troubled billionaire who is still recovering from his own terrible divorce.
The seasoned performer began his career in popular shows like That ’70s Show, led MTV’s Punk’d in the early 2000s, and went on to become a true leading man with roles in Just Married, Guess Who, and What Happens in Vegas.
Since 2015, Kutcher has been wed to fellow That ’70s Show alumna Mila Kunis. Son Dimitri Portwood, 7, and daughter Wyatt Isabelle, 9, are the couple’s children.
Charlie Sheen as Charlie Harper
Charlie Sheen as an untammable bachelor whose happy single life is disrupted. Sheen was already well-known in Hollywood when he was cast as Charlie Harper, not simply because he was Martin Sheen’s son but also because he has considerable acting talent.
Sheen starred in several iconic films, including The Three Musketeers, Wall Street, Cadence, Scary Movie 3, and many more. For eight seasons, he co-led Two and a Half Men until his personal issues prevented him from continuing with the show.
After Two and a Half Men, he starred in two seasons of FX’s Anger Management, made an appearance on an episode of The Goldbergs, and co-starred in 9/11 with Gina Gershon and Whoopi Goldberg.
Sheen is a father to four children: twin sons Max and Bob, 14, whom he shares with ex-wife Brooke Mueller, and daughters Sami, 19, and Lola Rose, 18, whom he shares with ex-wife Denise Richards.
Conchata Ferrell as Berta
If “say it like you mean it” had a personality, it would be Conchata Ferrell’s sassy housekeeper Berta, who never withheld her opinions about anything and kept the guys in line.
Prior to starring in Two and a Half Men, Ferrell starred in a number of TV series and movies, including Teen Angel, Erin Brockovich, Mystic Pizza, Edward Scissorhands, and many more.
Ferrell passed away in 2020 at the age of 77.
Holland Taylor as Evelyn Harper
Holland Taylor, who played Charlie’s mother to Alan, was a humorous matriarch due to her detached demeanor, open attitude toward sex, and dry sense of humor.
Naturally, by the time Two and a Half Men debuted in 2003, Taylor was already a household name in Hollywood. The seasoned actress, whose career began in the late 1960s, was no stranger to offering her humorous skills to both big and small screen plays.
Among many other TV shows, she starred in Beacon Hill, Bosom Buddies, Saved by the Bell: The College Years, and The Naked Truth. How to Make an American Quilt, George of the Jungle, Legally Blonde, Spy Kids 3: Game Over, and other movies are among her film credits.
After meeting Sarah Paulson at a dinner party in 2005, Taylor is currently seeing another actress. Years later, they reconnected on social media, and in 2015, they announced their love to the world.
Jennifer Taylor as Chelsea Melini
Jennifer Taylor, who had roles on Burn Notice, The Young and the Restless, Shameless, and many more, played one of the few women Charlie ever declared his love to.
Jon Cryer as Alan Harper
Jon Cryer portrayed Jake’s newly single father and Charlie Harper’s overly protective, eccentric, and anxious brother.
In addition, Cryer’s resume listed a number of noteworthy credits before he joined the cast. He made his feature debut in No Small Affair in 1984, but it was his portrayal of Duckie Dale in Pretty in Pink in 1986 that truly won over the hearts of the public.
In addition to earning credits in popular series including The Ranch, Justice League Action, Ryan Hanson Solves Crimes on Television, Supergirl, and most recently, Extended Family, Cryer earned two Primetime Emmys for his portrayal of Alan Harper.
Marin Hinkle as Judith Harper-Melnick
Before starring in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Marin Hinkle played the tense, awkward Judith Harper-Melnick, who was Jake’s mother and Alan’s ex-wife. Today, fans will most likely know her as Rose Weissman.
Since then, Hinkle has made appearances in numerous TV shows, including Homeland, Speechless, Madam Secretary, and others.
In 1998, Hinkle married theatrical director Randall Sommer. After 25 years of marriage, the actress filed for divorce in 2023, claiming irreconcilable differences.
Melanie Lynskey as Rose
Rose, a neighbor who had a one-night fling with Charlie but turned into his long-term stalker, was portrayed by Melanie Lynskey. But in season eight of the show, her perseverance—along with one extremely cunning scheme—paid off, as the playboy bachelor confessed his love for her.
After Two and a Half Men, Lynskey made a strong name for herself in television. In addition to Yellowjackets, the New Zealander has credits in Mrs. America, Candy, Castle Rock, Future-Worm, Togetherness, and Candy.
Almost two years after the ultra-private couple welcomed their daughter in December of 2018, Lynskey wed Jason Ritter in the spring of 2020.
Ryan Stiles as Herb Melnick
Jake’s paediatrician-turned-stepfather, played by Ryan Stiles, began seeing Judith after her split from Alan.
Stiles is most likely known to fans from The Drew Carey Show, an ABC television program that ran from 1995 until 2004. Throughout the course of Whose Line Is It Anyway?’s decades-long run, he has also produced and made appearances.
Since 1988, Stiles and Patricia MacDonald have been wed.
