In Aberdeen, Scotland, in the early hours of January 7, 32-year-old siblings Eliza and Henrietta Huszti were last seen.
In a statement to PEOPLE on Friday, January 31, Police Scotland stated that a corpse had been found in the River Dee, some 0.5 miles from the location where the twins were last seen on CCTV.
The police spokeswoman declared, “Inquiries are at an early stage and identification is yet to take place.”
While searching for the two sisters who vanished in Scotland almost three weeks ago, a body has been discovered.
The body of a person was discovered in the River Dee on Friday, January 31 at approximately 7:55 a.m. local time. This location is close to where 32-year-old siblings Eliza and Henrietta Huszti were last seen on CCTV in the early hours of January 7. According to a statement from Police Scotland, formal identification has not yet occurred.
A spokesperson for the police said, “Police Scotland was made aware of the body of a person seen in the River Dee near Queen Elizabeth Bridge in Aberdeen around 7.55 a.m. on Friday 31 January 2025.”
“The body has since been recovered from the water,” they added.
“Inquiries are at an early stage and identification is yet to take place,” police stated.

The sisters — who are part of a set of triplets — were last seen on CCTV footage on Market Street at the Victoria Bridge near the River Dee in Aberdeen at roughly 2:12 a.m. local time on Jan. 7.
The Victoria Bridge and Queen Elizabeth Bridge, where the body was found, are roughly half a mile apart, according to the BBC.
Authorities have concentrated their search on the river since the siblings vanished because they found “nothing to suggest that Eliza or Henrietta left the immediate area.”
However, local superintendent David Howieson stated in a statement obtained by PEOPLE earlier this week that while searches in the River Dee and Harbour area had ended, investigations to find the missing sisters were still underway.
“Extensive and detailed searches have been carried out of the River Dee and the Harbour area, using local and national specialist police resources, including the dive and marine unit, police dogs and air support, and those of partner agencies,” the officer said.
“These searches have now concluded at this time but inquiries will be ongoing to trace Eliza and Henrietta,” he said.
The announcement followed police’s disclosure in an amended appeal that on the morning of the siblings’ disappearance, an unsettling text message was sent “from Henrietta’s mobile phone to their landlady at 2:12 a.m,” the same time they were last spotted on CCTV. According to the police release, the message stated that “they would not be returning” to the apartment.
“The phone was then disconnected from the network and has not been active since,” police claimed.
“The following day, the sisters’ personal belongings were found inside the flat and the landlady reported her concerns to police,” authorities added in the appeal.
Additional CCTV footage showed the sisters “made an earlier visit to the bridge where they were last seen.” The appeal claims that the video shows the women carrying rucksacks at 2:50 p.m. on January 6.

“CCTV shows Eliza and Henrietta spent five minutes at the footpath and the Victoria Bridge but did not engage with anyone else,” police said. “The sisters are seen on CCTV returning to their apartment in Aberdeen’s Charlotte Street neighborhood after visiting the bridge, passing through the Union Square shopping center.”
“There’s no evidence that Eliza or Henrietta left their apartment again until just before they were last spotted at the River Dee in the early hours,” the appeal went on.
In the past, officers acknowledged that they had also been “assisting relatives as searches continue by communicating with authorities in Hungary, where the missing women are from.”

Darren Bruce, the local chief inspector, previously discussed the family’s worries regarding the disappearance.
Naturally, Elizabeth and Henrietta’s family is very concerned about them, and we are making every effort to locate them. We have substantial resources devoted to the investigation because we are very concerned about them,” a public appeal stated.

The third triplet, Edit Huszti, last spoke to her sisters on New Year’s Eve and they “appeared happy and cheerful,” according to the BBC. She revealed that being “out on the streets in the early hours of the morning” was not like her siblings.
“Eliza and Henrietta are both described as white and of slim build with long, brown hair,” according to authorities.
