Early Life
Tony, whose real name is William Anthony Parker Jr., was reared in France after being born in Bruges, Belgium, on May 17, 1982. His mother was a Dutch model, while his father was a professional basketball player abroad. Tony developed his game by playing basketball with his father and his two brothers, who were all avid players, after being inspired by Michael Jordan as a young boy. He was asked to join the INSEP in Paris at the age of fifteen. Parker played two seasons in the French amateur league before becoming pro and joining Paris Basket Racing in 1999. Following an incredible performance at the 2000 Nike Hoop Summit in Indianapolis, Parker became the focus of a fierce collegiate recruiting rivalry involving UCLA and Georgia Tech. Parker made the decision to stay in France and join Paris Basket Racing instead. He went into the 2001 NBA draft after a year.
NBA Career
Parker was selected as the 28th choice in the first round of the 2001 NBA draft and went on to play in the league. He started as the San Antonio Spurs’ starting point guard and played in 77 games during his first campaign. In November 2001, he became the third player from France to participate in an NBA game. Parker’s first NBA Championship ring was awarded to him after the Spurs overcame the New Jersey Nets in the playoffs. In 2003, 2005, 2007 (the year he was named NVP), and 2014, Parker went on to win four NBA Championships with the Spurs. Parker and the Spurs agreed to a three-year, $43.3 million contract deal in August 2014. The Spurs lost seven games to the Los Angeles Clippers in the opening round of the playoffs that year as Parker was dealing with the aftermath of an injury. The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Spurs in the championship game of the 2016 playoffs.
Parker had surgery to repair a torn left quadricep tendon during the 2017 playoffs, which put an early end to his season by the time he played in Game 2 of the second round against the Houston Rockets. Parker played 55 games and averaged a career-low 7.7 points per game in his final season with the Spurs.
In July 2018, Parker agreed to a two-year deal with the Charlotte Hornets. Parker announced his retirement from the NBA on June 10, 2019, which was less than a year later. Parker’s basketball career came to an end on November 11, 2019, when his No. 9 jersey was officially retired.

Tony, a fervent lover of rap and hip hop, collaborated with producer Polygrafic to make the French-language hip-hop album “TP” in 2007, which yielded three hits. Fearing Eva Longoria, one of the tracks, “Balance-toi,” peaked at number one on the French charts. Additionally, it peaked at No. 4 on the French charts in Belgium. According to the official French Singles chart, SNEP, a third single called “Premier Love” peaked at number 11. Collaborations with a variety of musicians, including Jamie Foxx, Rockwel, Soprano, and Booba, were included on the album.
Parker acquired a 20 percent share in Lyon, France’s ASVEL basketball team. The honorific title of Vice President of Basketball Operations was bestowed upon him. Rumors surfaced in the newspapers in December of that year, claiming Parker was having an affair with model Alexandra Peressant. Through their representatives, the couple angrily refuted these accusations, and Parker filed a $20 million lawsuit against the website that broke the story first. Longoria filed for divorce in Los Angeles on November 17, 2010. Parker filed for divorce in Texas two days later. The date of their divorce was set for January 28, 2011.
