Philadelphia has won the 2025 Super Bowl! Fly, Eagles, fly!
On Sunday, February 9, the Eagles won the Vince Lombardi Trophy after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40–22 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
They prevented the Chiefs from making NFL history by becoming the first team to win the Super Bowl three consecutive years, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back/birthday boy Saquon Barkley, who turned 28 on Sunday.
With six minutes remaining in the first quarter, a Hurts score from a tush push from the 1-yard line gave the Eagles the lead.
The Chiefs were unable to take advantage of the Eagles quarterback’s interception in the second quarter and score any points.
Barkley’s birthday fell on a different day for other Eagles players.
Cooper DeJean, a rookie cornerback who turned 22 on Sunday, gave the Eagles a 17-0 lead after intercepting Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and running it back for a touchdown.
With less than two minutes remaining in the half, wide receiver A.J. Brown joined in the action and scored a touchdown. Shortly after, cameras captured the player amusingly reenacting his previous habit of reading a book while watching from the sidelines.
The game didn’t get much better for Kansas City as the Chiefs fell behind 24-0 at the half.
After rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy made a 50-yard catch, it took Mahomes and the offense until over two minutes remained in the third quarter to go across midfield.
To avoid a shutout, Mahomes converted to Worthy in the end zone four plays later. Late in the fourth quarter, the Chiefs added two more touchdowns, but the game was already over.
The game on Sunday was a rematch of the Kelce Bowl, another name for the 2023 Super Bowl.
That game made Travis Kelce of the Chiefs and Jason Kelce of the Eagles the first brothers to play against each other in a Super Bowl. Both had won the title game before, Jason with the Eagles in 2018 and Travis with the Chiefs in 2020.
