NFL Teams with the Most Super Bowl Victories

Multiple wins are the only championship in professional football that is more significant than winning the Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be attempting to achieve a feat that few clubs have accomplished: a five-Super Bowl title record, when they play the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9 in the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

The Chiefs will be aiming to shatter yet another record in addition to trying to join that exclusive group. They became the eighth club to win consecutive Super Bowls in 2024, and they will be the first team in NFL history to “three-peat” if they win the 2025 championship. According to NBC, the Chiefs are already the first team to go for a third straight victory, since all prior teams were unable to return to the Super Bowl following their second victory.

Following the Chiefs’ victory in the AFC Championship game in January, quarterback Patrick Mahomes told reporters, “Of course, it would be awesome.” “If we can go out there and get that three-peat, I think it will be something I look back on at the end of my career, but at the same time, you just treat it as one season and one Super Bowl run, which is always hard to do.”

However, there are many more teams that have made NFL history than the Chiefs. Learn all there is to know about the NFL team with the most Super Bowl victories, including the Kansas City Chiefs’ current position in the rankings.

Dallas Cowboys: 5

The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Steelers in Super Bowl XXX in 1996, adding to the 49ers’ record five victories.

The Texas-based team won three Super Bowls in that decade, earning the moniker “Team of the Nineties” with their first victory over the Miami Dolphins in 1972.

Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXVIII were two of the victories that came back-to-back.

Denver Broncos: 3

The Denver Broncos, like the Chiefs, won two straight Super Bowls in 1998 and 1999, respectively, in Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII. They defeated the Carolina Panthers in 2016 to win their most recent championship.

The Colorado-based franchise has advanced to the Super Bowl eight times, which is the second-highest total in NFL history for a single team.

Green Bay Packers: 4

The Green Bay Packers were the first of just three NFL teams to win four straight Super Bowl games.

With consecutive victories in Super Bowl I and II, they began their record at the inaugural title game in 1966. The Wisconsin-based squad triumphed over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010 and the New England Patriots in 1996.

Kansas City Chiefs: 4

In addition, the Kansas City Chiefs have won four Super Bowls, their first being in 1970 against the Minnesota Vikings. The Missouri-based squad has won three more championships in 2020, 2023, and 2024 since selecting Mahomes in the 2017 draft.

If they defeat the Eagles in Super Bowl 2025 and win the Lombardi trophy, it will be their fifth Super Bowl victory and a historic “three-peat.”

Las Vegas Raiders: 3

Raider Nation also had three Super Bowl victories to its name. When they were still the Oakland Raiders, the Las Vegas-based team won their first two championships in 1977 and 1981.

With their new home and title as the Las Vegas Raiders, they have yet to win a championship, despite winning their third Super Bowl in 1984 as the Los Angeles Raiders.

New England Patriots: 6

With six championship crowns between them, the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers have the most Super Bowl victories.

With renowned quarterback Tom Brady, the Boston-based team went on a winning streak following decades of close calls. They won a total of six Super Bowl games between 2002 and 2019. Super Bowl XXXVIII and Super Bowl XXXIX were back-to-back victories.

With 11 title games played, the Patriots also own the record for most Super Bowl appearances.

New York Giants: 4

The New York Giants are another team that can boast of winning four Super Bowls. After winning their first championship in 1986, they went on to win three more in 1990, 2007, and 2011.

They were the only team in NFL history to win a Super Bowl following a 9-7 regular season with that final victory.

Pittsburgh Steelers: 6

Despite sharing the same number of Super Bowl victories as the Patriots, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a different record to brag about.

Super Bowl IX in 1975 and Super Bowl X in 1976, followed by Super Bowl XIII in 1979 and Super Bowl XIV in 1980, make them the first team to win consecutive championship titles twice.

In 2011, the Steelers fell to the Green Bay Packers, which would have made them the first NFL club to win seven Super Bowls.

San Francisco 49ers: 5

In addition to winning five Super Bowls, the San Francisco 49ers were the first team to surpass that feat. Two of those five victories, Super Bowl XXIII and Super Bowl XXIV, were consecutive, and they took home their first championship in 1982.

During his tenure, Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana guided the team to three championship victories.

Washington Commanders: 3

Only three NFL teams, including the Washington Commanders, have won the championship three times, despite the fact that five teams have won two Super Bowls, according to CBS Sports.

In 1983, the Washington, D.C. team defeated the Miami Dolphins to win their first game. Additionally, they were the winners of Super Bowls XXII (1988) and XXVI (1992).
